A haunting anti-war ballad about two soldiers who meet on a scorched battlefield, lay down sword and shield, and swear to find each other again by their eyes, not their names. Two enemy soldiers meet at night on a broken, ash-stained plain where the sword has gone red and the shield has gone black, and neither has a road that leads back. Lying wounded in the same ground, they see each other as faces rather than targets, and the war between them falls silent as their blood mixes in dirt that never asked whose it was. They admit they have forgotten which border, which father, which house and which name lit the hate handed down to them, and confess that what they called justice was really fear, remembering the mothers waiting at doors and the children emptied by war. Dying as enemies, they swear to wake as lovers, asking to lose their titles, their years and every banner they marched under, and to be recognized only by open palms and the eyes when the last smoke clears. #antiwar #ballad #enemiestolovers #battlefield
