Why Your Top Priority May Never Get Done: Ability, Capacity, or Agency

Three completely different problems may look identical from the outside: you don't know how, you don't have room, or you're not the one making the decision. Here's how to tell which one you have.   Most prioritization advice treats all three as the same problem and hands you the same fix: try harder. That's why the priority you keep restarting is still sitting there.   Relentless prioritization beats endless optimization. Optimization improves something that already exists. Prioritization asks whether it should exist at all. Saving 10 minutes on your meeting is optimization. Asking if the meeting should even be held is prioritization.   In this mini keynote, Marcey Rader walks through the three levels of prioritization: essential, relentless, and radical, and the diagnostic that tells you where your own priority may be stuck:   Ability. Do I know how to do it? Capacity. Do I have the room to do it? Agency. Am I actually the one deciding?   Each one has a different fix. Ability is a learning problem, and the skill doesn't transfer just because you got promoted. Capacity is a trade, because a priority doesn't rise unless something else in the stack comes down.
