In this Range Report, I have the opportunity to shoot and review a true piece of 1911 history. This pistol is a 6.5-inch long slide 1911 built by legendary gunsmith Jim Clark Sr., founder of Clark Custom Guns and one of the most influential pistolsmiths in the history of competitive shooting. These custom pistols were purpose-built for precision bullseye competition and were often assembled from multiple U.S. military surplus 1911 pistols, then meticulously fitted and tuned for maximum accuracy. How does one of these historic custom 1911s perform today? Does it still demonstrate the craftsmanship and precision that made Jim Clark Sr.'s work so highly regarded?
