I walked 16 miles around the whole island of Barra in Scotland’s beautiful Outer Hebrides. After travelling to Barra by CalMac ferry from Oban, it was time to explore this remote Scottish island on foot and discover what lies beyond Castlebay. Barra is famous for its spectacular beaches, turquoise waters, rugged coastline, quiet single-track roads and breathtaking Hebridean scenery. But what is it actually like to walk around an entire Scottish island? In this video, I set off on a long-distance walk across Barra, taking in the island’s landscapes, coastal views, small settlements and the experience of exploring one of Scotland’s most distinctive islands without a car. This is independent travel in Scotland at its best: discovering remote places, travelling by public transport and exploring at a slower pace. If you enjoy Scottish islands, walking holidays, unusual UK destinations, scenic coastal routes and adventures in the Outer Hebrides, join me for this 16-mile journey around Barra. Have you visited Barra, or would you walk around an entire island?
