Crawl space wall liner installation is critical to crawl space encapsulation. In Episode 6 of Crawlspace Encapsulation 101 for Contractors, Your Crawlspace demonstrates how to install YCS Geo Pro Wall Vapor Barrier with no unnecessary tension.
HB covers adhesive application, the inspection gap, roll control, corners, floor-liner overlap and an installation method requiring no mechanical fasteners.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN EPISODE 6
• How a two-person crew can divide the adhesive and liner workflow
• How to recognize too much or too little adhesive
• Why this project maintains an 8-inch inspection gap
• Why technicians should keep tension off the roll
• How a break at the ground supports the liner as adhesive sets
• How to form clean interior and exterior corners
• When a relief cut is needed at an outside corner
• How to create overlap for the floor vapor barrier
• Why YCS Geo Pro does not require mechanical fasteners
BUILD A REPEATATABLE WORKFLOW
One technician applies a consistent bead of adhesive while the second follows with the liner.
Use enough adhesive to create continuous contact with the felt backing—without squeezing it across the wall, liner or technician’s hands. If the liner pulls away, more may be needed. If adhesive spreads everywhere, the bead may be too heavy.
MAINTAIN THE INSPECTION GAP
On this project, the crew follows the mortar joint while maintaining a consistent 8-inch inspection gap.
Required gaps vary by code, termite requirements, jurisdiction, specifications and site conditions. Confirm the required gap before installation and maintain it throughout the project.
KEEP TENSION OFF THE LINER
In tight spaces, roll out enough material to remove tension before pressing the liner into place. The felt backing bonds aggressively to the adhesive and should not require excessive pressure.
Use enough hand pressure to work adhesive into the felt without forcing it all out. Along long walls, keep the roll ahead, lift manageable sections and work steadily down the foundation.
Pulling the liner tight does not make the installation stronger. It creates wrinkles, distorted corners and unnecessary frustration—the crawl space already supplies plenty of that for free.
CORNERS, CUTS AND OVERLAP
Interior corners are pinch points and may need additional adhesive. Keep a hand in the corner, form the fold and avoid pulling tension into the next section.
At an exterior corner, make the appropriate relief cut so the liner can turn cleanly while the roll stays relaxed.
Ground overlap may fluctuate as wall height and grade change. Maintain enough material to support the wall liner during setup and create a dependable transition for the floor vapor barrier.
ABOUT YCS GEO PRO WALL VAPOR BARRIER
YCS Geo Pro combines polypropylene geo fabric with a 0.00-perm polyethylene vapor barrier. Its padded felt backing supports adhesion, flexibility and moisture management in demanding crawl spaces and basements.
According to YCS, Geo Pro is virtually puncture-resistant, guaranteed not to delaminate or off-gas, and suitable for wall, pier and ground applications. Wall-liner rolls are available in 2-foot, 3-foot and 4-foot widths.
Installed with the YCS adhesive-based wall system, Geo Pro does not require mechanical fasteners. This can simplify training, produce cleaner walls and support a consistent moisture and vapor seal.
