Stop the Shake! | DIY Front Brake Overhaul: 2016 BMW 340i (F30) If you're feeling a pulsating brake pedal or a shaking steering wheel at highway speeds, it’s a classic sign of warped rotors. Today, I’m freshening up the front end of my 2016 BMW 340i with brand-new OEM rotors and pads to restore that smooth, confident braking performance. In this episode: • Diagnosis: Identifying the symptoms of warped rotors on the F30 platform. • Parts Selection: Why I stick with OEM BMW parts (sourced from BMW of Silver Spring) for consistent performance and fitment. • The Brembo Factor: Working with the 4-piston front calipers—how to drive out the pins and compress the pistons without special tools. • Pro-Tips for Rust: Using anti-seize and cleaning the hub-centric surfaces to ensure your wheels don't get "stuck" in the future. • Sensor & Safety: Swapping the brake wear sensor and using the correct anti-squeal paste to keep your daily driver quiet. Parts & Tools List: • OEM BMW Front Brake Rotors • OEM BMW Brake Pad Set (F30/340i Spec) • New Brake Wear Sensor • Brake Cleaner & Anti-Squeal Paste • 18mm Socket, Pin Punch, and a Small Pry Bar Chapters: • 00:00 – Intro: Diagnosing the pulsating brake pedal • 01:00 – Getting the wheels off (Tackling stuck hubs!) • 03:30 – Cleaning the rust and prep work • 05:30 – Removing the 4-piston Brembo caliper • 07:00 – Driving out the pins and pulling the old pads • 11:00 – Unboxing the new OEM rotors and pads • 13:30 – Comparing old vs. new: Identifying pad separation • 17:00 – Prepping the new rotor and cleaning anti-corrosive coating • 21:00 – Tech Tip: Applying anti-squeal paste correctly • 22:15 – Compressing 4-piston calipers with a pry bar • 23:30 – Routing the new wear sensor wire • 25:40 – Final assembly and anti-seize on the hubs • 30:10 – Success!
