He saved a nation, but could he save his own children? Behind the famous speeches and the victory sign, Winston Churchill’s family story was marked by heartbreak, addiction, depression, and loss.
In this documentary-style story, we look at the lives of Winston Churchill’s five children: Diana, Randolph, Sarah, Marigold, and Mary. We begin with Winston’s lonely childhood at Blenheim Palace and his rise from soldier and writer to wartime prime minister. Then we step into the Churchill household, where life in the shadow of a world-famous father was never easy.
We remember little Marigold, who died in 1921 and left a wound her parents never forgot. We follow Diana’s long struggle with depression and her death in 1963. We revisit Randolph’s brilliant but troubled life, and Sarah’s journey from stage and wartime service to personal hardship. Finally, we honor Mary, the youngest, who lived a long life and wrote about her family with love and honesty.
This video is a respectful retelling based on publicly known events. Sensitive topics are handled with care.
