Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present and aware of where we are and what we are doing, without judging or overreacting to it.
However with brain injury mindfulness is challenged by the "invisible" brain injury problems that come with this condition. As a result being mindful can be helpful but also harmful and difficult when a person's focuses and internal awareness face their brain injury problems.
In this Building Brain Awareness (BBA) seminar, Jessie Smith, a concussion survivor, meditation practitioner, and educator shares why it is wise to modify mindfulness to support people with brain injury.
Jessie offers concrete tools that cultivate the benefits of mindfulness for brain injury care. She presents many unique details that help the brain injury condition, and can be used to better manage, improve, and work to apply mindfulness for anybody with a brain injury.
In addition to a great presentation, some great discussion comes up that helps demonstrate the unique problems that come with brain injury and the benefits and challenges of mindfulness.
