In this video I talk about this concept of lever le capot, lifting the hood, and why it is the difference between knowing something and understanding it. You can drive a car for fifteen years without ever opening it. It takes you everywhere you need to go, right up to the morning it stops, and then you are standing on the side of a road next to a machine you have never once looked at. Knowing is driving. Understanding is opening the hood while the car still runs, when nothing is forcing you to. Everyone nods at that sentence. It sounds basic. But what does understanding actually mean?
