An 80s Japanese city pop track set in the back of a taxi in the rain. The only thing filling the silence is the wiper, keeping time. Every attempt to say it gets swallowed again, the red light blurs through the wet glass, and the night goes past with the words still inside.
Lyric (translated): "stay beside me a little longer"
The frame is the same 80s Japanese city pop with a funk-leaning groove — minor-key chords with major sevenths and ninths, a jazzy ii-V-I underneath, 102 bpm held throughout — but this is the quietest reading of it in the set. Sixteenth-note clean guitar cutting and a round fingerstyle bass keep the pulse low, electric piano, horn stabs and a string pad stay back, and the drums sit tight on a deep kick without pushing. The Japanese vocal is close and breathy, opening only at the chorus into layered harmonies with a short English hook inside. Six verses, two bridges and three instrumental breaks, two of them solos, across about 5.8 minutes: rain running down the glass, street lights streaming past, the driver's quiet profile, a bridge with the river lit underneath, the drop-off getting closer, and stepping out into it without an umbrella.
The picture is that night. A red taxi stands with its rear door open, she is beside it in a long coat, a suitcase at the kerb, the road flooded with reflection and rain coming down through traffic lights and neon. It holds still through the whole track, with only the spectrum along the bottom of the frame responding to the music.
It was made for a rainy night, and it does well as background when the weather matches. There is also a 45-second Shorts cut of the same track on the channel.
