In 1820, a young and confident Arthur Schopenhauer began teaching at the University of Berlin. He made a daring choice: he scheduled his lectures at the exact same hour as Hegel, the most celebrated philosopher in Germany at the time. The result? Hegel’s hall was packed. Schopenhauer’s was nearly empty. Only a handful of students showed up, and his academic career never recovered. In this video, we tell the story of that humiliating failure, Schopenhauer’s lifelong contempt for Hegel, and the decades he spent ignored and bitter. But the story doesn’t end there. Late in life, the world finally discovered him, and his ideas went on to influence Nietzsche, Wagner, Freud, Tolstoy, and Einstein. A powerful lesson about pride, rejection, and how true work can outlive the crowd’s approval. 🔔 Subscribe for more philosophy, history, and timeless wisdom for modern life. #Schopenhauer #Hegel #Philosophy #HistoryOfPhilosophy #Nietzsche
