They both laughed. "That was god-awful! Not worth the wait at all." Jmolius, recovering from the gin, settled back in the chair. "You're The Time Wizard now, can't you just turn the clock back?" The Time Wizard shrugged. "Maybe. I remember who I am, not how I do it." Jmolius waved him off. "Useless." He couldn't help a grin. They both sat there a while. The dust settled. A regular waited at the door--she just waited outside though. She could tell not to come in just yet. "So, like I said, what now? Do you go to the stars or something and I never see my friend again?" "I--well, I--I don't know. I feel I shouldn't be running the bar, but honestly, I fathom little what else to do." "You even talk differently, now. More--old, I guess." The Time Wizard nodded, then beckoned the woman in. The bar slowly filled overtime. The Time Wizard saw to the patrons. Beers, liquors, little bites. The chemical smells were replaced by the bitter draughts and aromatics from the large stew pot in the kitchen. The hearty meals drew in customers from the scavenge runs into radiation zones, still wet from decontamination washing. Their bunch would slump into chairs and sort of hope the waitress would rescue them--which she did. Jmolius joined their bunch to reminisce and plan subsequent runs into The Zone. In a quiet moment, The Time Wizard had some time to settle his thoughts. There were some he knew the origin of, and some he was uncertain. But one struck out beyond the noise. "Get to The House at the End of Time". A clear goal with no road paved for the task. "Open the gate" said another. "Slow down", a third. Like little devils, all his own voice, his own thoughts. None he could pin down as originating from the self he knew. He took out the pen and gave it another look. Some part of his vision unfocused, so he could see the silhouette without the details. It didn't help. "Nice pen." Said a patron. Without looking up, The Time Wizard nodded and said "Yeah. Weirdly clean though. Found it on a scavenge run." He looked up. The patron was not a human. Nor a mutant, beastman. A monster of shadows, shrouded in layers and layers of cloth. It looked like a drifter, until one saw into the mask. An obscura of matter. "I see now," it said and seemed to reach forth. Time seemed to slow. Instinctively, The Time Wizard arrested the arrow of time for but a few seconds. He dove down. Time sped back up and the wall of bottles exploded. "It sees you!" cursed The Time Wizard's thoughts. The Time Wizard called on his power. Some static formed around his fingers and with a snap of them, a bolt of lightning crashed into the obscured entity. It threw them across the bar, and silenced the noise in the room. "Get out of here!" yelled The Time Wizard. The patrons began running, crashing into each other and tables in a rush to vacate the room. Save for four men--a couple of the scavengers, the waitress and Jmolius. Jmolius unsheathed his sword and approached the entity. "Who are you--" he saw underneath. The void in there, the vacuous cavity that was that space under the cloth. The Time Wizard drew upon lightning once more and cast it down. The obscured thing dodged left, seemed to glide across the bar table. The scavengers fired their rifles, tearing through the clothes. A shot blew through a leg and it tripped and threw itself onto the waitress. She held a kitchen knife backhanded and weaved in silent motion through the clumsy swipes from the monster, carving a ravine into the front of it. Some of the clothes fell. Underneath, the absence of light--but, wounded still. Red lines and dots were cast over its body where their weapons had struck. The Time Wizard cast a telekinetic grip over its neck. Jmolius approached it cut the thing in two.
