For anglers of a certain age, June the 16th was never just another dawn. It was the day the year turned on. Many of us spent the night of the 15th watching the clock toward midnight, unwilling to let the moment pass unmarked. This year I stayed on the bank myself — saw the season in properly, slept what hours I could afterward, and woke to the river already there, rod set up and waiting. Waking to that, coffee in hand, gear ready, no walk to make but the short one down the bank — that's a luxury an angler doesn't get twice a year. This is the river the way it should be seen: quiet, unhurried, and entirely on its own terms. Filmed on the River Wye, Herefordshire.
