Itanagar, August 13: The NEFA Indigenous Human Rights Organisation (NIHRO) has submitted a representation to the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh seeking appropriate constitutional intervention and consideration of Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s voluntary resignation. In its representation, NIHRO cited concerns over constitutional propriety, public trust, institutional credibility, alleged conflicts of interest and the need for an independent investigation in matters linked to the Chief Minister’s tenure. The organisation listed several issues, including the Tawang anti-dam firing incident, the Tibetan Refugee Policy, the PRC controversy involving non-APST communities, pending cases it says were promised to be handed over to the CBI, the Namsai Declaration on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary dispute, hydro-power projects and alleged irregularities in Frontier Highway land acquisition and compensation. NIHRO also raised concerns over alleged corruption in departments including Fisheries, Rural Development, CAMPA and Panchayati Raj, as well as the Chakma-Hajong refugee issue. The organisation stated that its representation was not intended to prejudge any ongoing investigation or judicial proceedings, but argued that the prevailing circumstances warrant the Chief Minister’s moral responsibility to step down. The representation was signed by NIHRO Working President Nyadar Loya and Working Secretary General Tarh Atung.
