Sibiya’s Friend in Court Drama: Intimidation Recording, Teen Chats & Money After Sex Claim

Shadrack Sibiya's bail proceedings have produced explosive new allegations involving his friend, Bishop Maumela, the 16-year-old complainant, the 18-year-old complainant and the father identified in court as Mr M. During a public live, Bishop made a series of serious claims while defending Sibiya. He alleged that the 18-year-old received money after her sexual encounter with Sibiya, disclosed information concerning the location of the 16-year-old, claimed Sibiya had been tipped off about his impending arrest and made allegations concerning Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. But Bishop himself has now become an issue in the bail proceedings. The State presented allegations concerning Bishop's contact with Mr M, and a recording relating to that contact was played before court. Evidence was also presented concerning the relationship and dispute between Mr M, Sibiya and Mr Matume. The investigating officer further presented the State's evidence concerning alleged communications between Sibiya and the 16-year-old, including sexually explicit material, as well as evidence concerning the level of intoxication of the 18-year-old on the night of the alleged rape. This episode also examines Sibiya's previous criminal cases, his history of making representations to the NPA, the newly added firearm-related charge and the current dispute surrounding his legal team's attempts to obtain information concerning investigations and possible arrest. The investigating officer has not yet been cross-examined on all of this evidence. That stage of the proceedings will be covered separately.
