#organ #styria #graz With this new Tour of Stops presentation I wish you all a happy and blessed new year 2023. Stay strong and safe! ;) In this two-part video series I demonstrate the Klais organ of the Congress-Stefaniensaal concert hall in Graz, Styria. Part one includes the stop demonstration itself, where as in part two, you're going to hear some of the beautiful combinations possible on this organ. Part 2:    • TOUR OF STOPS: Klais organ - Congress-Stef...   Graz is the capital of the state of Styria and Austria's 2nd largest city. Therefore the musical hustle and bustle in this city isn't that small. The Congress center building, located opposite of the town hall and main square, houses the Stefaniensaal, one of Austria's finest and top concert halls. It's mainly used for classical concerts, but also for other types of concerts from folk music to modern pop. The case of the concert hall's organ is a real eyecatcher when entering the hall. It dates back to 1909, where the previous organ was built by E. F. Walcker from Ludwigsburg. Walcker also built the concert hall's first organ in 1885, which later on was played by Anton Bruckner and Max Reger during concerts. Today's organ was built in 2002 by Johannes Klais Orgelbau from Bonn. It consists of 3 manuals, pedal board, and 51 stops, making it not only one of Styria's largest organ, but also the largest organ in a concert hall in Austria south of Vienna. The disposition has universal characteristics with a more baroque Positiv and a french-romantic inspired Schwellwerk. The organ also features two consoles: a mechanical one in the organ case, and a free standig console fitting for organ/orchestra recitals. A huge thanks to the staff of Messe Congress Graz for the exlusive filming and recording permit and the opportunity to play and document this beautiful concert organ.
