DJ Target + MC Wiley + MC Caspit (SS Crew) | Drum & Bass Classics 1997 | Rinse FM 91.8 Pirate Radio

Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. Big up Colin Hunter for this taped set. Recorded on Sat 26th Oct 1997. The set features DJ Target (BBC 1Xtra) who was part of TNT (with DJ Trend (RIP)), having also released in 1997 the Drum & Bass classics "2 Degrees" (on the Kartoons label, owned by Nicky Blackmarket) and "Tune Your Bass"(LIVE Records). Target also co-produced with DJ Trend on a number of Garage hits: "Transmission", "Nissi" and "Unique". He would later go to be part of the Pay As You Go Cartel also setting up his own label Dump Valve Recordings, then joining Roll Deep with Wiley to spearhead the Grime movement, releasing the Aim High Music label which featured Wiley, Riko Dan, Dogzee & Syer, Terror Danjah and many others. This recording gives us an insight on how Wiley was developing as MC. Although we as a channel maybe biased towards Wiley, better known then as 'Wiley Kat' (later creating, Wiley Kat Records). There is no denying Wiley was a hard grafter. The energy he possessed and the amount of radio appearances he did at that time as Jungle MC was incalculable. Wiley was Rinse FM through and through but did many guest appearances on other London radio pirates. Check out the channel for more on the history of Wiley, you'll find a lot of early rare recordings. This wasn't anything like the Pay As You Go, or, the Roll Deep era and for this reason we make note of Wiley's excellence because he has been persistent and consistent with his level of productivity since the early 90s. No one quite like him has maintained that level and tenacity. As part of SS Crew with Target & Trend, Wiley would frequently spar with MC Caspit and MC Breeze on Rinse FM also teaming up Riko Dan which shows the depth to their connection before the formation of Roll Deep. Note that Caspit was a massively underrated MC at the time. Check out Wiley playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gloNU...
