I built a two-level HO scale model railroad... but I can't actually run any trains!
After months of construction, expanding the layout, and installing a new lighting system, it's finally time to get the trains moving again!
In this episode of Northforge Model Works, I'm cleaning up the wiring underneath my layout, reconnecting my DCC system, and getting my Atlas electric snap switches working again.
I'm using a DCC-EX EX-CSB1 command station with an EX-MotorShield8874 motor shield to power the railroad. I'll also show how I'm using DC-DC buck converters to step down my 24V accessory supply to 12V for the electric turnout machines.
There's still plenty of work ahead, including automated turnout control, occupancy detection, signalling, and integrating everything with PIC microcontrollers. But first, we need to get this railroad running.

About Northforge Model Works
I'm building a two-level, fully automated HO scale model railroad, combining traditional model railroading with electronics, microcontrollers, custom lighting, and automation.
Follow along as I figure out what works, what doesn't, and probably make a few mistakes along the way!
