How does the Motto80 sound at espresso and filter settings?
This video compares three setups at the same 900 r/min burr speed:
1. Fine espresso setting at 225 µm, bean feeder at 65 rpm
2. Coarse filter setting at 600 µm, bean feeder at 65 rpm
3. Coarse filter setting at 600 µm, bean feeder removed
At some coarse filter settings, a sharper high-frequency sound can occur when the bean feed rate does not keep pace with how quickly the burrs process the coffee. Removing the feeder changes how the beans enter the burrs, and you can hear the difference in the third comparison.
We have also been refining the bean-feeder structure to further improve the grinding sound. The updated feeder will be provided free of charge to all pre-order customers and will be used on future production units as well.
We are also evaluating a higher maximum feed rate for filter settings, with the aim of better matching the bean flow to the burrs’ processing capacity while maintaining grinding performance.
One note about the recording: phone recordings can sometimes make higher-frequency sounds appear sharper than they do in person. For this video, we used a Mic 2 positioned approximately 30 cm from the grinder to provide a more representative comparison of what you would hear in person.
The audio has not been specially processed. Microphone placement, speakers, and headphones can still affect what you hear, so this video is best used to compare the three setups rather than judge absolute loudness.
