A supervisor opens a memo and needs to know what happened, why it matters, and what action is requested. If those answers are buried, even accurate information may fail to prompt the right response. The page layout separates routing information from purpose, evidence, and action. We will identify the parts of a memo, write useful subject lines, build a three-part message, format it for scanning, and plan around the reader's task. A memo succeeds when its recipient can understand and respond without unnecessary guessing. Learn this chapter slowly, with moving diagrams, a worked example, a pause-and-try exercise and a clear explanation of the answer.
Made for fourth-class power engineering learners. Trace the flow, force, heat or decision path while the narration explains why it works. Pause whenever you need more time.
📘 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
• Identify a memo's audience and components
• Write informative subject lines
• Organize opening, supporting information, and action
• Use readable memo formatting
• Plan a memo before drafting
⏱️ CHAPTERS

0:38 The heading routes and identifies the message
1:19 The subject line should name the useful purpose
1:57 The opening establishes purpose and context
2:35 The body supports the purpose with evidence
3:18 The close states action, owner, and timing
3:57 Readable formatting supports retrieval
4:38 Plan around the audience before drafting
5:22 Worked example: an inspection request
6:04 Your turn: improve a vague close
6:45 Feedback: request the actual decision

💡 HOW TO STUDY
1. Watch the mechanism once before taking notes.
2. Replay the worked example and explain each step aloud.
3. Pause at the practice scene before revealing the answer.
4. Revisit the questions tomorrow without your notes.
