Most of my no hit runs for the Hidden Mountain bosses have been a combination of Heng Blade and Gauntlets but this time I decided to go back to my OG Abyss weapon Mo Blade. For a boss like Halcyon who chains her combos together quickly and has pretty tight punish windows, Mo Blade is far from the most ideal weapon but I wanted to challenge myself to use it effectively and I was happy to find even a boss like Halcyon has many openings to capitalize on. While there may not be any safe opportunities to get off stage 3 charged attacks outside of staggers, she does have a lot of openings openings that are big enough to get in stage 1 and 2 charged light attacks I’ve said it in previous videos but most of the fun in using Mo Blade for Abyss runs is finding those opportunities to weave in charged light and heavy attacks in between combos, especially against bosses that are more aggressive with longer combos.
Time wise it took me about as long as I expected to get my first hitless run, which was initially with Mo Blade and Gauntlets (this one is my second). In my first run, I was attacking exclusively with Mo Blade until the very end, where she was left with a small chunk of HP after an execute so to make sure I secured the win I finished her with a Gauntlet charged heavy. The ONLY reason I didn’t keep it is because I wanted to beat her with pure Mo Blade so I did it again until I got this attempt. I intentionally quick swapped to the Gauntlets here in phase 2 to more easily dodge the gold attacks but I didn’t attack with them at all so to me this still keeps the spirit of a “Mo Blade” only run.
For the fight itself, phase 1 was actually tripping me up more than phase 2 despite her having less overall moveset variety. There are some very subtle timing differences in some of her combos that got me a lot, the sweeping kick especially. Phase 2 was just a matter of staying consistent as this phase is literally entirely scripted. There’s been a lot of bosses with scripted combo sequences but Halcyon definitely takes it for having the MOST scripted moveset because every single attack happens in the exact same order every time. The only time it would ever slightly deviate is if I “missed” the jump prompt, which I want to say happened WAY more often than it should’ve because there were so many times I would simply jump but not get the kick animation. Even if I did “miss” the jump though she’d adjust with a different attack then continue her combos in the scripted sequential order. This predictability not only made P2 feel way less demanding but ensures very consistent punish windows so I always felt comfortable getting in charged light attacks in between her combos.
Overall even when going for hitless Halcyon still takes the crown as my favorite Hidden Mountain boss! Even if her moveset is pretty scripted it’s still really fun and satisfying to parry with enough variety to keep it engaging all the way through. For now though this will conclude all of the current HM bosses and their abyss trials! I may post extra no hits of bosses I have but this will be the last new boss until the Qingzhou update in October!
