Learn how Sigha creates a crunchy, overdriven modular bass patch with deep low-end movement and filter modulation. Sigha breaks down a bass patch similar to one he has used in recent music. Instead of using the more obvious sub oscillator output, he takes the wave shape output from the Make Noise STO and sends it into an Intellijel µVCF, with the filter cutoff pulled down so that only a small amount of low frequency content comes through. The patch is then shaped with modulation from the Intellijel Quadra, gently opening the filter to create a sweeping low-end movement. From there, the signal is sent into the Happy Nerding VCF, using its overdrive circuit to add crunch, weight, and a rougher harmonic character. The result is a growling modular bass sound that feels raw, distorted, and alive. Sigha also explains how these harsher, more overdriven textures can work well when balanced against more polished elements such as clean kicks, breaks, pads, or other refined sounds in an electronic music production.
