Here Is Why DJ SUMBODY K!LLED, Joe Sibanyoni Shock Madlanga

The murder of DJ Sumbody has suddenly been dragged into a much darker story one involving the taxi industry, alleged criminal networks, assassination attempts, and a powerful businessman who now believes that the people closest to him may have been targeted simply because of their association with him. That businessman is Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni. And his testimony before the Madlanga Commission has raised a chilling possibility. Sibanyoni believes slain musician Oupa Sefoka, better known as DJ Sumbody, may have been targeted because of his proximity to him. Not because of something DJ Sumbody had necessarily done himself. But because of who he knew. Because of the people around him. And because of the connections surrounding one of South Africa’s most powerful and controversial industries. Sibanyoni was testifying before the Madlanga Commission on Friday, 28 August 2026, as the inquiry continued examining the networks, relationships and violence surrounding organised crime and the taxi industry. His testimony had already placed the spotlight on the darker side of the taxi business. He had spoken about alleged hitmen known as izinkabi. He had discussed the existence of so-called bucket money within taxi associations. He had described how money generated through the industry could allegedly be used to finance violence and territorial disputes. And he had spoken about his own experiences, including surviving two assassination attempts. But then the questioning turned to people in Sibanyoni’s wider social and personal circle. And one name immediately changed the atmosphere. Oupa Sefoka. DJ Sumbody. A hugely popular South African musician and businessman whose life came to a violent end in 2022 when he was gunned down in Johannesburg. Sibanyoni told the commission that he knew Sefoka’s father from their time in the taxi industry roughly three decades ago.
