Egungun refers to the Yoruba masquerade traditions representing ancestral spirits that revisit the human community to bless, protect, and warn the living. Practiced in southwest Nigeria and the Diaspora, these masked, robed figures perform in festivals, wearing elaborate, layered, and colorful cloth costumes to honor their ancestors and reinforce community bonds.
