IBIZA 1976. A private finca, two turntables, a cassette recorder — and a long night of soul, funk, jazz and open-ended listening. THE DELCOURT TAPES is a fictional archival reconstruction of a summer evening in Ibiza in 1976, centered around vocalist, tenor saxophonist and record collector Marcus Landry. Across more than 90 minutes, Landry moves through soul, jazz-funk, gospel, spiritual grooves and slower late-night selections — with conversation, glasses, room ambience and the physical limits of cassette tape remaining part of the experience. Marcus Landry also appears here as part of the imagined musical world surrounding THE SOLAR PASSAGE, a loose studio collective featuring recurring vocalists Sheena Hollings and Debbie Landry. Their sessions drift between spiritual soul, cosmic funk, Rhodes-heavy grooves and long-form improvisation — music shaped as much by rooms, weather and people as by conventional song structure.    • Marcus Landry & The Solar Passage : 1970s ...   THE FINCA NIGHT Even as Ibiza's club culture was beginning to take shape in the mid-1970s, private houses and rural fincas could still offer another kind of social and musical space. These evenings allowed food, conversation, records and live music to coexist without the fixed timetable or dance-floor logic of a club. Artists, musicians, island residents, visitors and friends could move between listening, talking, eating, dancing and playing music. A DJ did not necessarily have to maintain a continuous peak: a record could simply become part of the room. That idea sits at the heart of this reconstruction. The evening begins slowly, grows increasingly social, passes through funk, soul and jazz, and eventually settles into a quieter final stretch — but Marcus Landry's set ending does not necessarily mean the night itself is over. At 46:59 the cassette reaches the end of Side A. The nine-second tape change is reconstructed in real time: the record in the courtyard would have continued playing while those seconds disappeared from the recorded document. The historical and cultural setting is research-informed, while Marcus Landry, the Delcourt gathering and the specific events depicted here belong to the fictional archive. Images and selected audio elements were created with generative AI. The reconstruction combines fictional archival photography, environmental sound, tape artefacts and music into the imagined documentation of one evening. Music recordings remain the work of their respective artists and rights holders. If you enjoy pre-club Ibiza, Balearic music history, rare soul, jazz-funk, spiritual jazz, private-party culture and imagined archival recordings, more tapes and reconstructed stories from the Comunidad archive will follow. #BalearicMusic #VinylMix #Ibiza1976 #TheDelcourtTapes #SoulFunkJazz
