The Ride I Almost Regretted | Cold, Rain & No GPS in Austria

The riding season is coming to an end, the weather is getting worse — but I still had one more motorcycle trip to make. I needed to ride to a motorcycle shop to pick up some parts for my Yamaha XT600E before an upcoming off-road adventure. Instead of taking the shortest route, I decided to turn it into one more proper ride through the beautiful Salzkammergut region of Austria. Things didn't exactly go according to plan. My GPS stopped working right at the beginning, so I had to rely on road signs, memory and a bit of improvisation. I also underestimated the weather, dressed too lightly and ended up freezing. And, of course, I didn't bring my rain gear… which turned out to be a mistake when I got caught in the rain. But despite all that, the ride turned out to be worth it. I rode through some incredible roads and landscapes around the lakes and mountains of Salzkammergut, made it to the motorcycle shop, got everything I needed for the upcoming off-road trip, and enjoyed one more memorable ride on the Yamaha XV950 Bolt.
