Through grass and stone and garden wall, The winding road remembers all. Upon an English village green, A turning path can still be seen. Cut through the turf by hands unknown, Long before our time had flown. Round and round the children came, Following paths without a name. Was it dancing? Was it prayer? Only the old hills know who walked there. Round and round the pathway goes, Where it will lead, nobody knows. Through the meadow, church and yew, An ancient road is calling you. Walk it slowly, turn again, Through summer sun and autumn rain. England keeps behind her walls A thousand paths, a thousand calls. Inside the church where candles shine, A pilgrim follows every line. No road to Rome, no distant sea, Just quiet steps on bended knee. Turn to the left, then right once more, Past ancient glass and chapel door. A winding journey toward the light, While bells are ringing through the night. Round and round the pathway goes, Where it will lead, nobody knows. Through the meadow, church and yew, An ancient road is calling you. Walk it slowly, turn again, Through summer sun and autumn rain. England keeps behind her walls A thousand paths, a thousand calls. Then noble gardens grew their walls Of living green by manor halls. High hedges hid the path from sight, A game by day, a dream by night. Ladies laughed and children ran, Trying to find where they began. Behind each turn another way, Another secret of the day. Grass below and bells above, Paths of sorrow, paths of love. Yew and hawthorn, stone and tree, Every turn a mystery. Some seek heaven, some seek home, Some simply wander there alone. Round and round the pathway goes, Past the thorn and past the rose. Through the centuries, old and new, The ancient road is calling you. Turf and stone and hedges tall, One winding thread connects them all. England’s mazes, green and grey, Keep their secrets to this day. Follow the path… But do not run. Every ending Has begun.
