PhD Vacancies 2026 The official CUP prospectus lists a total of: 🔥 246 PhD Seats 📚 46 PhD Programmes The seats are distributed as: Open – 100 | SC – 37 | ST – 18 | OBC – 66 | EWS – 25 | Total – 246 The prospectus also provides for 5% horizontal reservation for PwD candidates within the total intake, as per Government of India guidelines/policy. UGC-NET / JRF & PhD Eligibility As per the official prospectus, CUP follows the UGC framework under which NET scores can be used for PhD admission instead of a university-level entrance test. The prospectus identifies: ✅ Category 1: PhD admission with JRF + Assistant Professor eligibility ✅ Category 2: PhD admission without JRF + Assistant Professor eligibility ✅ Category 3: PhD admission only The validity of Category 2 and Category 3 scores is governed by UGC guidelines. The prospectus also states that candidates who qualified NET before the UGC notification dated 27 March 2024 are eligible for PhD admission. Selection Process & Interview For UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT-JRF qualified candidates: ➡️ JRF Weightage – 70 marks ➡️ Interview – 30 marks For UGC/CSIR NET Categories 2 & 3: ➡️ Test Score – 70% ➡️ Interview – 30% The same evaluation criterion applies to GATE/GPAT/DBT or other equivalent national-level test-qualified candidates.
