A new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll shows Amy Klobuchar leading Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth 52% to 36% in the race for Minnesota governor. The Demuth campaign quickly pushed back on the poll, but longtime Republican strategist Michael Brodkorb says the bigger problem is not the numbers. It is how Minnesota Republicans respond when the political reality turns against them.
Brodkorb joins Kyle Shiely to explain why he believes Republicans need to stop attacking uncomfortable analysis and start running better campaigns. They discuss whether the GOP can close the gap, why national money follows competitive races, the party's two-decade statewide losing streak and whether divided government is still possible in Minnesota.
Plus, with the Minnesota State Fair underway, they look back at how the fair helped launch Jesse Ventura in 1998 and ask whether today's tightly controlled, social media-driven campaigns have lost the unscripted political theater that once made the Great Minnesota Get-Together a must-stop for candidates and voters alike.
