Maggie Smith has Tea With an Italian Dictator (Full Scene) | Tea with Mussolini

Determined to protect her beloved circle of British expatriates from rising political violence, the proud and domineering Lady Hester Random (Maggie Smith) travels to Rome for a personal audience with the Italian government. Sitting down in a grand, sun-dappled palazzo, she politely drinks tea with Benito Mussolini (Claudio Spadaro) to secure a personal guarantee of safety for her friends. This masterfully tense yet elegant sequence drips with tragic irony, as the dictatorial regime uses the ambassador's widow for an easy propaganda victory while the clouds of World War II gather heavily in the background.
