Fagersta C - Gävle C [TDV0035]

This time you join me on a very warm day for a trip from Fagersta central to Gävle central. Unlike many other old Swedish railway lines this part of Godsstråket genom Bergslagen has been state-owned since it was built between 1875-1900. It was built as the northern main line but after the state took over the more direct line between Uppsala and Gävle in 1933 it gradually lost its status as a main line. During the 1960s the state closed down many lines, even though this line never was threatened with closure, passenger traffic disappeared in 1968 and would not return for many years. Since the 1990s some of the closed stations has regained their train stops, but now the passenger traffic is threatened again due to reduced government funding. At the moment there is only one passenger train in each direction per day, two on the weekends. Someone has started a petition to try to maintain and develop the traffic along this line.
