I don’t want to see any more ads for GLP-1s. There’s no way seeing them postered on the subway is good for public discourse on weight, health, and beauty standards. Sometimes, it seems like even attempting to talk about these topics isn’t allowed. So, I’m kind of, sort of, almost not really talking about it. I’m talking about Shallow Hal (2001), a controversial rom-com where a hypnotized man falls head of heels for a woman he thinks is thin (when she’s actually obese). Here’s hoping I put a finer point on how the rise of Ozempic (and all the other GLP-1s) is reversing progress we’ve made with the discourse toward weight and women’s bodies, while showing you clips of Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow. Have you noticed a copious amount of ads for GLP-1s?
