Receiving HEVC H.265 Channels on Satellite TV. In this video I will test all the satellite television receivers I own and see how well they can decode the HEVC H.265 channels on satellite 116.8 West KU Band. This is the only transponder (with 14 channels) on satellite TV in North America to use HEVC H.265.

HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) is also known as H.265. It’s a more advanced form of video coding that allows higher compression of video signals without sacrificing video quality. Its predecessor is MPEG-4 (H.264), which is still the most widely-used compression format on Free Satellite TV. HEVC is more commonly used for pay services, but going forward will likely be increasingly utilized on free satellite TV in order to use existing bandwidth as efficiently as possible.
