Why did we choose Valladolid, Spain without visiting first? And how much does it really cost our family of three to live here?
In this video, we share the real factors we considered before moving to Spain: language, rent, safety, pace of life, access to Madrid, family life, autism support, public healthcare, transport, weather, and everyday essentials.
We also share our current monthly cost of living in Valladolid as a family of two adults and one child.
We initially considered bigger cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia, as well as Toledo, Salamanca, Albacete, Ávila, Segovia, and Guadalajara.
But after around two months of research, Valladolid stood out as the city that best matched our family’s needs and budget.
In this video, we talk about:
Why we wanted Castilian Spanish as the main everyday language
Why Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia didn’t fit our family’s priorities
Rent prices and why affordability mattered to us
Valladolid’s slower pace, lower crowds, safety, and family-friendly lifestyle
Access to Madrid by fast train in around one hour
Visiting Madrid, Segovia, Valencia, and Barcelona from Valladolid
Autism-support considerations and why we researched Asociación Autismo Valladolid
What we love about daily life here: parks, playgrounds, malls, cinema, city events, and Spanish architecture
Honest downsides of Valladolid
Our real monthly expenses for rent, groceries, utilities, school, transport, mobile/wifi, subscriptions, and more
