Why would experienced Canadian truckers turn down a job advertising up to $120,000? I break down what that number really means and why the same offer can look like a career ladder to one driver and a bad trade to another.
I walk through the pay range, Class 1 requirements, screening, route control, dock time, home schedules, owner-operator tradeoffs, fuel costs, performance pressure, company history, and the pride that comes with staying independent. I also look at Loblaw’s fleet investments and what this job may mean for newer drivers entering the industry.
I finish with five questions I would ask before accepting an offer, including the real pay, the actual schedule, the record requirements, what you are giving up, and what kind of life you want in five years. The money matters, but it is not the only thing on the scale.
