Around 14 panchayats and nearly 100 villages near the Chilika islands are facing the threat of waterlogging as water levels continue to increase. Heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas has also raised water levels across the 52 canals considered major sources of Chilika's inflow. Several areas reportedly remained waterlogged even after the previous situation improved. With another spell of heavy rain, concerns over a worsening flood-like situation have increased among local residents. People in Chilika and Krishnaprasad block are worried about the rising water, while residents have raised questions over the presence of Water Resources Department officials in the affected areas.
