Trivat Composed And Choregraphed by Tabla Maestro Pt.Mukundraj Deo In Kathak, Trivat (also spelled Trivatta in some traditions) is a rhythmic composition that combines dance bols with pakhawaj/tabla bols and sometimes sargam (musical notes). It is performed in madhya or drut laya and showcases both rhythmic complexity and musicality. A typical Trivat may include: Tabla/Pakhawaj bols: Dha, Dhin, Ta, Kita, Taka, Gadi Gena, etc. Dance bols: Ta Thai Tat, Aa Thai Thai Tat, etc. Sargam: Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa (in some compositions). Its purpose is to demonstrate: Rhythmic precision (layakari) Coordination between music and dance Graceful footwork (tatkar) Expressive use of bols Trivat is commonly presented in the nritta (pure dance) section of a Kathak recital, often after items like Aamad, Tukda, Toda, and Paran, depending on the gharana and the choreography.
