SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 - ALL 16 Games Shown [PSP]

SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 is a collection of 16 classic NeoGeo games ported over to the PS2, PSP & Wii. In this video will be taking a look at the PSP version, which features some of the NeoGeo's heavy hitters, such as Metal Slug, Fatal Fury and Neo Turf Masters, and the collection represents fantastic value with the porting job being handled pretty well. There's a varied selection of genres to choose from and even a hidden game, World Heroes, which has to be unlocked by collecting 10 medals via any of the other 15 games. The addition of medals is a fun system, especially in a time before the PS3 made trophies more commonplace. These would be earned by performing tasks such as completing a game on easy mode or achieving a high score. This compilation's stand-out titles include Metal Slug, the first in the series of run-and-gun classics. Last Resort is a fantastic SHMUP with some nice mechanics, and also included is what I would classify as one of the best golfing games available with Neo Turf Masters; this holds up very well even today. Regarding performance, SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 runs at a stable frame rate, and any input lag is unnoticeable to me, making this retro collection a nice way to play these games. If you want to play these games at a higher fidelity, I would highly recommend checking out the ACA Neogeo Selection titles released on the Nintendo Switch, as they are much more accessible and don't require any upscaling. There is a sequel titled SNK Arcade Classics 0, which is exclusive to the PSP and Japan. The reason they went with 'zero' instead of a Vol. 2 is that this collection contains earlier games from the 1980s. All footage was captured on a PSTV by myself, and the image was upscaled using a RetroTink 4K.
