MARYLAND 1975: The Lyon Sisters Vanished From a Mall — Solved After 42 Years On March 25, 1975, Katherine Lyon and Sheila Lyon vanished from Wheaton Plaza in Maryland and were never seen again. The Lyon sisters disappearance became one of Maryland's most haunting cold cases. In this true crime documentary, we trace how ten-year-old Katherine Lyon and twelve-year-old Sheila Lyon disappeared from a crowded mall in broad daylight, how the investigation stalled for decades with no DNA, no crime scene, and no remains found, and how dismissed teen witness Lloyd Lee Welch pleaded guilty to kidnapping and felony murder 42 years later. How did a dismissed witness become a convicted killer? What happened inside Wheaton Plaza on March 25, 1975? And why did justice take 42 years with no DNA evidence? This is part of our Decades of Silence series on cold cases solved decades later, featuring missing sisters, unsolved mysteries, and long-delayed justice.
