Ecosystems - Their Types and Functions

What essential roles do ecosystems play in nature? In this lesson for high school students, we establish the definition of an ecosystem and look at the ways in which ecosystems function. Ecosystems consist of countless interactions between biotic and abiotic factors, which can have profound effects on all aspects of the ecosystem. Within an ecosystem, productivity measures the biomass produced by photosynthesis, while decomposition helps recycle nutrients and forms the base of energy flow through organisms. This lesson is from MiaPrep's Environmental Science course.
