Title: Rapsodia Nusantara No. 4 - Ananda Sukarlan Rapsodia nusantara is a growing set of rhapsodies based on various traditional folk songs from Indonesia by Indonesian born pianist and composer, Ananda Sukarlan. The 4th one is based on a folk song from Maluku called Buka Pintu, literally meaning open the door. The song tells of a boy who keeps asking for a girl to open the door as a barking dog and pouring rain befalls him; despite all the calls however, the door remains unopened. This rhapsody consists of a total of 10 variations based on the main theme, starting with a dreamy, fleeting opening. It explores a variety of genres from mimicking gamelan to taking inspiration from Liszt, giving the funny and lighthearted, even romantic, folk song an adventurous and virtuosic arrangement.
