Lake Ontario (Official Audio)

Lake Ontario is a song of celebration—and protest. In August 2026, President Donald Trump directed U.S. federal agencies to begin referring to Lake Ontario as “Lake America.” But Lake Ontario has carried its name, its history, and the memories of the people who have lived along its shores for centuries. This song celebrates what no executive order can change. Long before today's international border existed, Indigenous peoples traveled these waters and lived along their shores. Later came explorers, settlers, merchants, soldiers, farmers, sailors, and generations of families who built communities around the lake. Toronto, Kingston, Hamilton, Rochester, Oswego, and countless smaller communities became part of its story. Lake Ontario is also something increasingly valuable in our divided world: a great natural treasure shared by two nations. Canada and the United States meet along its waters, but neither country created the lake, and neither owns its history. Names matter because they carry memory. "You cannot own a lake with ink. You cannot make the past disappear. The water doesn't read the headlines. It simply carries on from year to year." Lake Ontario is a reminder that presidents come and go, governments change, and political moments eventually become history. The lake remains. Its waters still move from Niagara toward the St. Lawrence. The sun still rises over its shores. And the name that has traveled through generations still carries a history far older than today's political debate. Lake Ontario. You are Lake Ontario still. #LakeOntario #Ontario #Canada #GreatLakes #LakeAmerica #CanadianHistory #AmericanHistory #ProtestSong #FolkMusic #OriginalMusic
