Land Devices HP-2 Demo

Gnarly fuzz that can turn down into a nice fuzzy overdrive? Yes. Decided to do this demo with two very different guitars this time because the pedal’s tone is super responsive to the input and I wanted to demonstrate that. With the p90/humbucker combo on the powercaster the fuzz is dark and heavy. Gain (harmonics knob on the left) turned up is absolutely searing and compressed. The tone can also be manipulated with the gain knob, so that lower settings yield darker sounds, and higher gets brighter as you turn it up. So with the powercaster I liked the gain set relatively high and used my guitar’s volume knob to control the amount of saturation/breakup. I found that’s a really great way to control the pedal - with the guitar’s volume knob. It really opens up and becomes much more versatile. With the single coils on the mustang, the pedal was overall much more open sounding. Still compressed a fair amount but for the single coils I really like the lower gain darker tones with the gain dialed back, especially in the left toggle setting for what sounds like slightly more mids. And maybe you could tell but I loooove it stacked with the spring reverb from the topanga for a dirty garage-esque sound. Bright reverb + the darkness from the fuzz is a great combo! And like I said, it cleans up great with the guitar’s volume knob so you could easily use the HP-2 as the sole gain pedal on a board if you’re into that. Otherwise, I find it stacked nicely with the plumes or another mid-forward bright drive for some added presence/solo boost thing. Land also sent me the little Domino analog octave up pedal to use which stacked nice into the front. Treble for days but pairs/boosts nicely and makes that raunchy “trashy” sound!
