Playthrough of JumpStart Numbers, Knowledge Adventure’s 1998 PC educational game. A cheerful early-math adventure with adjustable difficulty, three imaginative dream worlds, and a varied selection of number-based activities. Rating: 7/10. JumpStart Numbers follows Frankie the dog as he dreams about being a pirate, an astronaut, and a cowboy. In each setting, the player completes educational mini-games to earn dog biscuits and refill Frankie’s empty vault. Collecting 100 biscuits in all three dream worlds completes the game. The activities cover counting, addition, subtraction, number sequences, grouping, and basic problem-solving. Tasks include collecting the correct number of asteroids, searching for treasure, and taking part in Wild West target games. The different themes help prevent the lessons from feeling too repetitive, while the adjustable difficulty allows the material to suit children from preschool through third grade. The presentation is one of the game’s strongest features. Frankie is an appealing guide, the environments are colorful, and the voice acting explains each activity clearly. Animations and rewards give the player constant encouragement without slowing the game down too much. Some mini-games are more entertaining than others, and filling every biscuit vault requires repeating activities several times. Older players will quickly find the educational challenges very easy, but the game is designed for children aged roughly five to eight, and it handles that audience well. JumpStart Numbers successfully turns basic mathematics into a structured adventure rather than presenting it as a collection of disconnected exercises. It is simple, friendly, and repetitive in places, but the strong themes and variety make it one of the more enjoyable subject-focused JumpStart games.
