World's Tallest Murugan Statue I சேலம் முருகன் கோவில் I Muthumalai Murugan Temple I Village Database The Sri Muthumalai Murugan Temple is a Hindu temple located in Puthiragoundanpalayam, near Attur in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, a popular deity in Tamil culture known as the god of war, victory, and knowledge. Key Highlights World's Tallest Murugan Statue: The temple is most famous for its 146-foot-tall statue of Lord Murugan, which is the tallest in the world. This statue, which is six feet taller than the one at Batu Caves in Malaysia, was consecrated on April 6, 2022. The same sculptor, Tiruvarur Thiyagarajan, who created the Malaysian statue, also built this one. Architecture: The statue stands with a serene, smiling expression, holding an 80-foot-tall vel (spear) in his left hand. An elevator is available to take devotees up to 120 feet to get a closer look at the statue. The outer walls of the temple complex are adorned with intricate carvings depicting various mythological scenes. Purpose: The temple's chairman, N. Sridhar, a local businessman, built the statue to provide a place of worship for those who cannot travel to the Batu Caves in Malaysia. Darshan Timings While specific daily timings can vary, the temple is generally open to the public from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily. During major festivals like Skanda Shasti and Thaipusam, the temple hours may be extended. How to Reach By Air: The nearest domestic airport is Salem Airport, located about 65 km away. By Rail: The closest railway station is Ettapur Road Railway Station, located approximately 3.3 km from the temple. Salem Junction is about 54 km away.
