The story revolves around two sisters-in-law, Surbhi, 24, and Pallavi, 26, who live together with their husbands Mohit and Karan, mother-in-law Sushma, father-in-law Mahesh, and sister-in-law Shweta. Karan runs a small restaurant, while Mohit works at a regular job. In the beginning, Karan’s restaurant is doing reasonably well, but Karan becomes careless and starts trying to save money by serving old food instead of preparing fresh meals. One morning, his employee Ramu warns him that the leftover food will spoil by evening and could make customers sick, but Karan refuses to listen and orders him to refrigerate the food and serve it later. Throughout the day, Ramu is forced to reheat the same food and serve it to customers. The next day, Karan again refuses to prepare fresh food and keeps using leftovers, adding extra spices and tempering to hide the poor taste. Customers begin noticing the difference. One customer complains that the food no longer tastes as good as before, but Karan rudely tells him to order something else if he does not like it. Gradually, customers stop visiting the restaurant. One evening, Karan arrives at the restaurant drunk and behaves badly with a customer who asks for pav bhaji. When the customer complains about his behavior and says that the restaurant has lost its reputation, Karan tells him to leave. Eventually, the restaurant loses almost all its business, and Karan is forced to shut it down. He returns home drunk and tells Pallavi that the restaurant has finally closed because there were no customers and he could not even pay the electricity bill, rent, and Ramu’s wages. Pallavi is shocked because Karan had never told her how serious the situation had become. Sushma and Mahesh try to explain that Karan should learn from his mistakes instead of giving up, but Karan says that he has no money left to invest in the restaurant. When Mohit returns from work, Karan angrily takes out his frustration on him, saying that although Mohit only has a small job, the entire burden of the family has now fallen on him. Pallavi also makes a sarcastic comment that since Karan used to earn more, he contributed more to the household, but now Mohit will have to manage the expenses. Surbhi calmly says that everyone should contribute according to their ability and assures the family that they will manage together. Mohit also agrees to support the household and tells everyone not to worry. The next morning, Surbhi checks the kitchen and realizes that most of the household groceries have run out. She asks Mohit to bring more supplies, but he explains that his salary will arrive in two days and he will fill the kitchen with a month’s worth of groceries then. Surbhi agrees to manage somehow until payday, but Pallavi overhears them and taunts Surbhi, saying that if Karan were still earning, the groceries would have arrived immediately. Surbhi does not argue and says that they can manage for two days. Soon, Sushma expresses a desire to eat vegetables, so Surbhi goes outside to buy some. However, because of the heavy rain, vegetable supplies are low and prices have increased considerably. Surbhi returns home without buying vegetables and tells Sushma that the prices are too high. She suggests making kadhi and rice because it requires fewer ingredients and would help them save money. Sushma agrees, and Surbhi suggests that Pallavi make the kadhi because she knows that Pallavi makes delicious kadhi, while Surbhi will prepare the rice. However, Pallavi misunderstands the suggestion and becomes offended, thinking that Surbhi is deliberately giving her the harder task because her husband is no longer earning. She refuses to make the kadhi and says that Surbhi should make it while she will prepare the rice.
