Ringed Plover Foraging at Keyhaven Marshes | Canon R7 & RF 200-800mm
.
A delightful close-up encounter with a Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula), bustling along the mudflats and shingle shorelines at Keyhaven Marshes, Hampshire.
Watch as this small, rotund wader dashes across the mud, pausing suddenly to search for marine invertebrates along the Hampshire coast
.
Interesting Fact
To hunt for small worms and crustaceans hiding beneath wet sand or mud, Ringed Plovers perform a remarkable behavior known as "foot-trembling". They rapidly tap or vibrate one foot against the wet surface, which mimics the impact of raindrops or vibrations from moving prey. This trick causes hidden invertebrates to move or float up to the surface, making them an easy meal!
