The Mantra of Dependent Origination expresses one of the essential teachings of the Buddha: all relative phenomena arise through causes and conditions, and when those causes cease, their results also cease.
oṃ ye dharmā hetuprabhavā hetuṃ teṣāṃ tathāgato hy avadat, teṣāṃ ca yo nirodha evaṃvādī mahāśramaṇaḥ svāhā.
This sacred mantra is associated with the Buddha’s teaching on dependent origination and has been placed throughout the Buddhist world on stupas, tsa tsas, sacred images, amulets, and other blessed objects.
At Dzokden, we especially encourage practitioners to chant the Mantra of Dependent Origination when putting on Dharma amulets, connecting the act of wearing the sacred object with the Buddha’s teaching on causes, conditions, and liberation.
The mantra also appears at the conclusion of Enlightening the Heart Ngondro. This recording can be used for meditation, daily recitation, while putting on a blessed amulet, while making or preparing Dharma objects, or simply as a way of repeatedly bringing the Buddha’s teaching on dependent origination to mind.
May all the right causes and conditions arise for the Dharma to flourish, obstacles to be pacified, and all beings to attain awakening.
Khentrul Rinpoche says that the music is beneficial if it helps you familiarize your mind with the Dharma.
