Surface Restoration in Action | How Pittsburgh Water Restores Streets & Sidewalks

During a construction project or emergency repair, Pittsburgh Water staff and contractors will often require access to infrastructure that is underground. To access this infrastructure, the most direct route is typically by going through existing streets and sidewalks. Once that work is finished, the street or sidewalk surface will need to be restored back to the way it was before the excavation – a responsibility that’s also usually on us! Surface restoration is an essential part of our job, and understanding the process helps explain why it sometimes takes time and multiple steps to complete.
