This recording is an original adaptation and arrangement based on the historic hymn “Amazing Grace,” whose original text was written by English clergyman and poet John Newton and first published in 1779. The melody most commonly associated with the hymn today is the traditional tune “NEW BRITAIN,” whose composer is unknown. This American Gospel Radio adaptation preserves familiar words and themes from the historic hymn while introducing newly adapted lyrics, additional verses, a new bridge, quartet responses and a new arrangement created for this recording. A hymn that has traveled through generations. A message that has never grown old. Grace for the lost. Grace for the weary. Grace that carries us Home. ABOUT THIS ADAPTATION Few hymns have carried the message of grace across generations like Amazing Grace. Its words have been sung in churches, homes and gatherings for centuries, reminding believers that no one is beyond the reach of God’s mercy. For this American Gospel Radio version, we wanted to honor that heritage while creating something of our own around it. The familiar opening remains: “Amazing grace How sweet the sound…” But this adaptation expands the story with new and adapted passages about being carried through storms, finding peace when strength is gone, being called Home, walking in His light, and looking toward eternity. The result is our own interpretation of a historic Christian hymn — created in the spirit of the old Gospel quartet recordings and radio broadcasts that brought songs of faith into American homes generations ago.
